Saviez-vous que, pendant longtemps, les chats ont été les meilleurs amis des matelots ? En effet, lors de longs voyages en mer, les marins embarquaient des minous avec eux.
Les Egyptiens furent les premiers à naviguer en compagnies de petits félins mais cette pratique s'est vite répandue à travers le monde. Le rôle de ces "chats de navire" était principalement de chasser les rats et les souris.
Pour la sécurité de l'équipage, il était important de pouvoir canaliser ces petits rongeurs pouvant provoquer de gros ennuis aux embarcations tels que des grignotages de cordes, des trous dans la coque ou encore la contamination de la nourriture présente à bord.
