Aujourd'hui, on vous présente le seul oiseau capable d'hiberner : l'engoulevent de Nuttall (Phalaenoptilus nuttallii).
Petit habitant à plumes de l'ouest de l'Amérique du Nord et du Mexique, l'engoulevent de Nuttall ne prend pas son envol vers des horizons plus chauds pour passer l'hiver. À la place, il entre dans un état de torpeur, comparable à l'hibernation. Il s'installe confortablement sur le sol et se camoufle grâce à son plumage marron tacheté.
Pendant sa période d'inactivité, sa température corporelle peut descendre jusqu'à 5 degrés Celsius.
